Celebrating global breastfeeding campaign by promoting local support

Breastfeeding has lots of long-term benefits for mothers and babies so, this World Breastfeeding Week, Kent County Council (KCC) is reminding families of the local support available to help your breastfeeding journey.

To promote the world-wide campaign, ‘Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all’, KCC is also highlighting the opportunities for businesses to help mums and their families feel welcome.

...we are encouraging mums and families to come forward for support as they need it

Dr Anjan Ghosh Kent County Council Director of Public Health

KCC Director of Public Health, Dr Anjan Ghosh, said: “We understand that breastfeeding can be difficult for some, so during this World Breastfeeding Week we are encouraging mums and families to come forward for support as they need it.

“Some mothers can also feel uncomfortable breastfeeding in public. For businesses wanting to help families feel even more welcome, check out the information on Beside You Kent’s supporting breastfeeding page.”

Families can:

Businesses can:

  • join the #BesideYouKent social media accounts including Facebook, X and Instagram accounts to let mums in the county know that they are welcome to breastfeed at your venue
  • offer a family-friendly area where a mum can feed a baby while keeping an older sibling occupied with books, toys or drawing
