Commonwealth Day marked with flag raising at Sessions House

The Commonwealth Flag of Nations has been flown above Sessions House in Maidstone to mark Commonwealth Day (Monday 9th March).

Observed across 56 member countries, Commonwealth Day celebrates the shared history, values and co-operation that unite nations across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific.

Kent County Council’s Chairman, Richard Palmer, said: “The Commonwealth represents a unique partnership of nations built on friendship, democratic values and mutual respect.

“Flying the Commonwealth Flag of Nations today recognises the strong ties between the United Kingdom, nations in the Commonwealth and the many people in Kent whose heritage and family connections are part of this global community.

“Through cooperation in trade, education and shared democratic values, the Commonwealth continues to deliver real benefits to people and communities across the globe.”
