Dover’s new temporary library set to open

The doors will open on Monday, 13 November, at Dover’s new temporary library at the Gateway, giving residents access to a range of vital services.

Books, public PCs, free WiFi, a wide variety of events, and the registration of births and deaths, are just some of the services visitors will be able to find alongside Gateway services at the temporary library, which will be based at the Dover Gateway building, 69-71 Castle Street, CT16 1PD.

The library will be open the same times as it was in the Discovery Centre.

I am delighted that Dover’s library and registration services will be available to residents and visitors again very soon

Clair Bell Cabinet Member for Community and Regulatory Services

Cabinet Member for Community and Regulatory Services Clair Bell said: “I am delighted that Dover’s library and registration services will be available to residents and visitors again very soon. We’ve worked hard to ensure library customers, and those registering births and deaths, have excellent temporary service provision at the Dover Gateway while we work to make much needed improvements to the Discovery Centre as a whole.”

Dover’s Library at The Discovery Centre temporarily closed on Monday, 30 October, to enable major improvement works to the building and is expected to reopen again early 2025.

Located within The Dover Discovery Centre, the library will be one of several services within the building to be rejuvenated via the project. The redevelopment of the Dover Discovery Centre has been a key ambition for Kent County Council (KCC) and Dover District Council (DDC) for several years.

When the refurbished Dover Discovery Centre reopens, a range of services will join the library and registration service by moving back in – including Adult Education, Discovery Nursery, Dover District Council Archive and Education service, Integrated Children’s Services and the Good Day Programme.
