Water supply disruption – schools update

With parts of Kent continuing to experience water disruption, Kent County Council (KCC) is working closely with the Department for Education and South East Water to manage the impact on schools and pupils.

The latest advice

Parents and carers are urged to check emails or messages from their child’s school and follow the latest guidance. Schools will make direct contact if there are any changes to the usual school day, including where temporary arrangements are needed – for example, opening only for pupils sitting exams.

  • Exams will go ahead as planned for all GCSE and A-level students.
  • Special schools have contingency plans in place and are expected to remain open as usual.

A KCC spokesperson said:  “We understand this is a difficult time for families.

“Our priority has been to ensure that students sitting public exams are able to do so and that students with special educational needs and disabilities are able to attend school.

"This is a changing situation and we are continuing to work closely with schools, South East Water and the Department for Education to put contingencies in place where needed, while South East Water continues its efforts to restore normal water supplies."

Further details about the Kent Water Resilience Partnership announced by KCC Leader Linden Kemkaran on 28 May are currently being developed and will be published in the coming weeks.
