Kickstart 2025 with a health boost for your staff

Kent organisations, businesses and schools can now book free health checks for employees.

The checks are a really convenient way to help staff look after their health because they take place at work.

The offer comes after Kent County Council (KCC) successfully applied for a government grant to make it easier for people to have a health MOT.

Depending on their eligibility, staff aged 25 to 84 will be offered either:

  • a cardiovascular (CVD) health check
  • a NHS health check

What staff can expect

Staff who have a CVD check will:

  • have a blood pressure check
  • have their height, weight, and waist measured
  • discuss lifestyle routines, such as exercise, alcohol and smoking, with a health professional. With their consent they will be signposted or referred to any relevant services to help reduce future health risks

Staff eligible for the NHS health check undergo all the above plus a cholesterol test.

Checks can take between 20 to 30 minutes and all results are confidential and given directly to the employee.

Why offer health checks?

The checks are a great opportunity to promote a healthy workforce and enable any health risks to be identified, and treatment or professional support recommended early on.

Individuals receiving CVD health checks will still be eligible to have their 5-yearly NHS health check; but anyone having a full health check at work would not need to have another for 5 years.

How to arrange for your staff to have checks

For more information visit kent.gov.uk/workplacehealthchecks or contact our provider, Randox, to organise a date by emailing kent.healthcheck@randox.com or calling 0800 2545 452.

Once a date has been agreed, Randox will provide a link for employees to book their appointments.

On the day, the checks must be carried out in a private space or room at your workplace that has a table and chairs.  All specialist equipment will be provided.

Let Randox know if you have recently had any NHS health checks carried out by Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust at your workplace in the last year to reduce any duplication.

So what were health checks like for you?

Alan Burke, Managing Director of Kent importer Vine Meats, said: “There was a lot of interest from the whole team when we first suggested having the health checks at the office and we saw this as an opportunity to offer something that all of our employees could benefit from. It was easy to organise and really well received by everyone. It has come at a great time for us to start 2025 as a healthier workplace.”

Vine Meat's Sales Director, Remy van Kreij, said: “I was already aware that my smoking habit was something that I needed to address but the health check has given me the motivation to look into the different options that could help me to stop sooner rather than later. I was also surprised at my cholesterol result and am now going to make changes to my lifestyle to address this.”
