Kent County Council (KCC) has officially opened Folkestone’s new Library and Community Learning Centre today (Tuesday 26 May 2026), bringing key facilities back to the heart of the town for the first time in three years.

Located at 14 Sandgate Road, visitors can now benefit from everything in one place - from borrowing books, attending events, activities, classes and using free public computers and Wi-Fi, to birth and death registrations and exploring local history.

Designed as a modern, multi-purpose space, the building also features dedicated adult education facilities, supporting residents to gain new skills, build confidence and access employment and training opportunities.

The opening follows several months of work to transform the Sandgate Road site into a modern, accessible space for the community.

At the opening, the occasion was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches, as well as invited guests having a first look at the new facilities.

This marks a major moment for Folkestone and for KCC, as the first new town centre library location in many years.
