At the handover ceremony today, KCC’s Corporate Director for Growth, Environment and Transport – Simon Jones – said the 2015 registration minibus will continue to be a valuable asset to the charity.
KCC has a long-standing history of supporting the RBLI, previously loaning the minibus to the charity to support an annual event where cyclists ride to Ypres in Belgium, for the Ride with a Veteran fundraiser, supporting armed forces veterans and their families.
This vehicle was originally donated to KCC and was used to assess people who drive vehicles for schools. The vehicle has now become obsolete due to a change in rules meaning schools must now supply their own vehicles.
KCC’s Corporate Director for Growth, Environment and Transport, Simon Jones, said: “We are proud to support the RBLI and as part of our long-standing relationship with them, I am happy to present this minibus to help with their ongoing and vital work.
“It was a pleasure to meet so many fantastic people who have put their hearts and souls into making sure people who have served in the armed forces, as well as their loved ones, are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
Speaking of the donation of the minibus from Kent County Council, Lisa Farmer, Chief Executive of Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), said: “I want to thank Kent County Council for the incredibly generous donation of a minibus, which we will certainly make very good use of.
“In fact, the minibus will have its first official RBLI outing today as the support vehicle to the 40 cyclists who are taking part in our annual fundraising Ride with a Veteran cycle ride from our Village in Aylesford to Ypres in Belgium.”
