Safer Roads for All: Kent promotes annual Brake campaign

Vision Zero. The road safety strategy for Kent

Kent County Council (KCC) is promoting Brake Road Safety Week by encouraging everyone to take responsibility for making our roads safer.

The national campaign started on yesterday (Monday 14 November) and runs until Friday 18 November and brings together partners from the Safer Roads for Kent Partnership who will be supporting us throughout the week to deliver key messages.

KCC will be promoting its Vision Zero strategy, launched in 2021, as well as holding public information sessions in Canterbury High Street to speak to all road users – including those who are likely to be particularly vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, focussing on engaging with young people from the universities in Canterbury City Centre. The team will also be encouraging residents to create road safety pledges and become a Vision Zero advocate.

Separate sessions are planned to tackle drink driving and raise awareness of the risk to pedestrians when they are under the influence of alcohol, as well as promoting active travel through the walking and cycling routes not just in Canterbury but the whole of Kent.

The council is also continuing to work and build relationships with local primary and secondary schools to promote road safety to young people.

"As a key partner of the Safer Roads for Kent Partnership, we are supporting the Brake Road Safety Week this year with the theme of Safer Roads for All."

"There will be lots of activities taking place across the week in schools and workplaces, as well as public information sessions. Road safety is a priority for the partnership and KCC all year round and the Brake Road Safety Week provides a great opportunity to emphasise the shared responsibility we all have when travelling on the roads, no matter how we travel."
