Naomi Stock from the SEND Information Hub: So, it’s basically loads of different services that you can expect to find here that can help you from early years through school age and post-16 if you have a child or young person with any type of SEND.

[Moving shot showing books, leaflets and a variety of free gifts such as pens and tote bags across different tables]

Naomi: It’s just a really happy friendly place, and somewhere you can talk to someone directly. Mainly people have been overwhelmed by how much information, advice and guidance and services there is out there, and they haven’t realised the different types of services and a lot of them are free to access to it’s has been really amazing knowing that people can go away from the roadshows and take that information, and it will help support them and their family.

Matthew Bates from the SEND Enquiries Hub: The feedback we have had has been generally really positive. People have found them to be a good experience with being able to talk to other parents and carers in their neighbourhood.

[A display board with information about Kent’s Portage service. The board is surrounded by toys on the table and people from other services can be seen in the background]

Matthew: There is no hard sell or anything like that, so come along and you can get involved as much or as little as you like.

Kerry Miles from Information, Advice and Support Kent (IASK): I have been attending the roadshows for about three or four years.

Kerry: And we find it really useful to get out into the community and share information about our service. A lot of parents don’t know about us, and they often tell us in feedback to our service, ‘I wish I knew about you sooner’. So, when we come out to the community obviously, we can share that information with lots of people.

Emelia Fox from Kent PACT: We believe there are a lot of services out there that our parents and carers just do not know about so firstly coming to today is so important to find the organisations themselves. But secondly, most importantly, to speak to parents and carers coming to today, to be able to direct them in whatever direction they may need extra support in. Whether that’s to an organisation here at the roadshows today, which nine times out of 10 we’re able to direct them to which is brilliant, and also fill them with all information about Kent PACT and how we can help them becoming a member with us, and all the different types of offers we can give them.

Louisa Thomas-Knowles from the Immunisation Service: We come out to community events to promote the vaccine schedule because that can get quite confusing. There is a lot of information out there. So it’s just to talk about the risks and the benefits, and any myths or misunderstandings.

[Moving shot showing the toys and information available at one of the stalls]

Louisa: It’s quite an informal setting to be able to talk to families and just to hear the anecdotal questions that they have.
