The Community Transport Grant enables parish councils, charities and community groups to apply for a grant funded by the local authority to help them provide transport for their local communities.
Schemes funded by the Community Transport Grant provide invaluable services to thousands of local residents who have difficulty accessing public transport, and they play a particularly important role in rural areas. Approved schemes run on a not-for-profit basis, or as a social enterprise, often involving volunteers to manage and deliver the service.
Last year £100,000 was allocated by the council to the grant but this year, in recognition of the challenges facing both the private operators and communities across Kent, it has been increased to £450,000.
Parish councils, charities and community groups can apply via the KCC website from November. The Community Transport Grant launch will be announced in the council’s resident newsletter (sign up at www.kent.gov.uk/updates) and through the council’s website and social media channels.

The Community Transport Grant is just one method of support. Others include the Kent Karrier dial-a-ride service which takes you from your home to set destinations such as supermarkets.
