Kent County Council (KCC) has appointed Jacksons as the principal contractor to deliver the scheme, which has been funded by Homes England.
With more than 4,000 new homes planned on the A249 corridor, the project will provide the infrastructure needed to increase capacity on the road network and ease traffic congestion, as well as give residents safe options for walking and cycling.
The works are set to be completed in winter 2025/26. Residents are invited to Bobbing Village Hall on Wednesday 11 December at 6.00pm to find out more about the project and ask the team any questions. If residents would like to attend, please email KeyStreet@jackson-civils.co.uk.
“The Key Street Junction project is part of our ambition to put infrastructure in place first before planned housing.”
Neil Baker, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “The Key Street Junction project is part of our ambition to put infrastructure in place first before planned housing.
‘We are doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum, especially as we appreciate just how much the Sittingbourne area has been impacted by work to and under the roads recently.
‘Once these works are complete, extra capacity on the area’s roads will be unlocked, ready for the extra homes planned for the area.”
Works will begin on the north-west side of the junction, starting the improvements to the pedestrian access, installing drainage and undertaking necessary utility service diversions.
