Kent County Council (KCC) launches WeRoam — The free app that rewards you for walking, wheeling and cycling

A new app that rewards people with points and prizes for being active is launching across Kent.

WeRoam is a free active travel app developed by Active AI Ltd in partnership with KCC and funded by the UK Government.

Available now on iOS and Android, the app is designed to make walking, wheeling and cycling more fun, more social and more rewarding for everyone, regardless of age, ability or fitness level.

WeRoam connects to your smartwatch or fitness tracker to automatically log walks, cycles and wheelchair journeys, or you can record activity manually using the built-in ‘Record’ button.

Every journey logged earns points which unlock new levels. As well as this, hidden across Kent's towns, countryside and coastline, a network of Roam Markers are waiting to be found. These are a network of location-based points drops:

The app is designed to make walking, wheeling and cycling more fun, more social and more rewarding for everyone, regardless of age.

There are three tiers:

  • Bronze Markers — permanent markers distributed across Kent, refreshing their points value daily. Turn up, check the map and collect.
  • Silver Markers — semi-permanent, route-based markers linked to local partner locations and walking routes.
  • Gold Markers — rare, time-limited surprise activations that appear during special weekend events. Open the app, check the map and find them before they're gone.

Points earned through Roam Markers and active journeys can be redeemed for exclusive local rewards — including offers with Kent partners such as Shepherd Neame and Produced in Kent.

We want people across Kent to open the app, step outside and discover that their everyday journeys are worth something.

Spencer Dixon, KCC’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “WeRoam is about making active travel feel genuinely rewarding. We want people across Kent to open the app, step outside and discover that their everyday journeys, however big or small, are worth something. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting to walk more, WeRoam is for you."

Later this month, residents will be invited to get moving with a free county-wide walking and wheeling challenge, powered by the WeRoam app.

The Kent Coast Big Walk & Wheel, a free six-week county-wide active travel challenge, will run from 25 July to 31 August 2026.
