Knockhall Primary welcomes Cabinet Member, and former pupil, Beverley Fordham as it celebrates positive Ofsted outcome

Knockhall Primary School in Greenhithe recently welcomed Kent County Council (KCC) Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Beverley Fordham, who visited the school she once attended as a child – an occasion that comes as the school celebrates a positive Ofsted inspection outcome.

Inspectors have confirmed that the school is now meeting the expected standard, marking clear progress since its previous inspection in June 2023, when it was judged to require improvement.

Beverley was joined by KCC Councillor for Swanscombe and Greenhithe, Thomas Mallon, for the visit during which they met with staff and pupils. Afterwards Beverley praised the school’s progress:

“This is very positive news for Knockhall Primary School and the local community. It was particularly special for me to return to the school I attended as a child and see the dedication of staff and enthusiasm of pupils today.

“The inspection outcome shows the school has made clear progress and is now meeting the standard expected nationally, ensuring children receive the education they deserve. I would like to thank the staff, leadership team and pupils for their hard work and commitment, and I look forward to seeing the school continue to go from strength to strength.”

Under Ofsted’s new inspection framework, schools are no longer given a single overall grade. Instead, they are assessed across a range of areas, with ‘expected standard’ indicating that a school is delivering the level of education and care that children should receive.

Headteacher Kathryn Yiannadji welcomed the positive outcome, highlighting the progress made across the school:

“At Knockhall Primary School, we are proud that the report highlights the positive, respectful environment we have created, where pupils feel safe, valued and enjoy their learning. We are especially pleased that early years is recognised as a clear strength of the school, with children making strong progress and outcomes in Reception above national averages.

“This reflects the dedication of our staff and the positive relationships across the school. Our staff and leaders work closely together to ensure every child is supported to succeed, and we are proud of our pupils and the strong culture we have built at Knockhall Primary.”

The school, which is part of The Woodland Academy Trust, has focused on improving key areas since its previous inspection, with a clear emphasis on raising standards and outcomes for pupils.

The school will now continue to build on this progress, with the ambition of further strengthening outcomes for all children.
