With warmer weather and longer daylight hours, our highways teams are making the most of the conditions to tackle medium and large-scale road defects across Kent. These favourable working conditions allow repairs to be carried out more efficiently, helping to keep the county moving and making roads safer for everyone.
The scale of the challenge remains significant. In response, highways teams have been surveying the network, identifying key areas for repair, and carefully planning works across the county.
By coordinating activity and spreading repairs over several months, we aim to minimise disruption for residents, businesses and road users while delivering lasting improvements.
Since 1 April, our teams have repaired 11,243 potholes and responded to over 5,000 highways enquiries, demonstrating the continued effort being made to maintain and improve Kent's road network.
Alongside pothole repairs, KCC’s road surfacing programme is progressing at pace.
By the end of June, we delivered around 320,000 square metres of surface improvements. This includes around 90,000 square metres of road renewal (where the old, life-expired surface is removed and replaced) and around 230,000 square metres of road surface preservation (where a thin surface of material is applied to an existing road surface to seal the road, extend its life, and prevent potholes).
Despite the extreme hot weather of recent weeks, our teams are dedicated to getting on with the job to make roads smoother and safer for everyone.

“By repairing potholes, resurfacing roads and carrying out preventative maintenance, we're helping to create a safer, smoother and more reliable network for everyone.”
Peter Osborne, KCC Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "We know residents want to see road improvements, and our teams are working hard across Kent to deliver them. By repairing potholes, resurfacing roads and carrying out preventative maintenance, we're helping to create a safer, smoother and more reliable network for everyone."
If you see our crews out on the network in the coming weeks, please treat them with respect as they work to improve Kent’s highways, often in tough conditions.
